Richard Wilkins upstaged by new flame on red carpet

Richard Wilkins stepped out with girlfriend Virginia Burmeister for the GQ Men of the Year awards on Wednesday night and the pair had all eyes on them. 

While Wilkins, 63, has gone to many red carpet events, it was Burmeister, 50, who stole the show with a very daring display.

The blonde beauty turned heads in a sleeveless navy-blue dress. The very low-cut frock also had thigh-splits on both sides of the gown. 

She finished her ensemble with a pair of gold-coloured heels, while she accessorised with a cream clutch and subtle gold jewellery. 

Looking smart, Wilkins wore a classic black single breasted dinner suit, completed with a black tie and matching leather shoes.

The Channel Nine host recently confirmed his relationship with Burmeister after the pair were snapped together at former Today Show host Lisa Wilkinson’s second wedding, in Sydney.

Before he was an entertainment guru, Wilkins was a teen dad from New Zealand. 

At 18, Wilkins had to suddenly grow up after discovering the girl he was seeing at the time was pregnant.

He opened up publicly about the experience  for the first time earlier this year.

“It was a 16-year-old girl who I didn’t know very well and she fell pregnant… so we got married of course,” he told 9 Honey. 

Wilkins said he felt even more overwhelmed by the situation after learning his new son Adam had Down Syndrome. 

“I didn’t quite know how to handle all that at the tender age of 18, but now I often refer to him as my rock,” Wilkins said.

Wilkins soon left New Zealand to go on the road with his band, sending home the money he made for Adam’s care. 

He has previously spoken about how much he loves being a father to his six children, saying they make him “enormously proud, deliriously happy.”
