Princess Mary opens up about pain over mum’s death

Crown Princess Mary visited the Children, Youth and Mourning support group, which offers free support and expert advice to those who have lost family members, and made a touching revelation about her own loss – the death of her mother.

Mary shared with Mads Knudsen Topp, a 15-year-old whose father died three years ago, “I was 26. It happened too early.” The royal mother of four had lost her mum, Henrietta Norton back in 1997, to a heart condition.

She opened up about her loss to try and help others facing similar experiences, explaining that the untimely brush with loss made her a stronger person.
“It’s so hard to see when it is so close and so personal,” she continued.

“But as you get older, you learn to appreciate the time you had together as a gift. And that’s something you wouldn’t have otherwise. It makes a strong person.”

In the past, Mary has shared various admissions about her pain over the loss of her mother, including how lonely she felt and how she’d have loved to spend more time with her.

“I felt alone in my pain,” she revealed to a Danish TV and radio station previously.

“As if nobody understood what I was going through and I had come to a standstill while the whole world around me kept moving forwards.”

“I would have liked to have spent more time with her,” she said.

What do you think of Mary’s words? Have you lost a parent or a close family member?
