Outrage after Trump tweets fake anti-muslim videos

US president Donald Trump has sparked international condemnation after retweeting three anti-muslim videos, one of which is known to be fake.

The first video is said to show a muslim immigrant beating up a Dutch teenager on crutches.

However, it has been proven to be a fake, with a spokesperson for the Dutch public prosecution confirming the suspect was born and raised in the Netherlands.

The second video showed a muslim man destroying a statue of the Virgin Mary, while the third, labelled ‘Islamist mob pushes teenage boy off roof and beats him to death!’ appeared to show a group of men on a rooftop in the Middle East wearing the Islamic State flag and throwing a man from the building.

The original tweets came from deputy leader of British far-right party Britain First, Jaydan Fransen, who currently facing charges for racially aggravated harassment of a Muslim woman.

UK prime minister Theresa May’s official spokesman said it was “wrong for the president to have done this”.

The tweets have garnered thousands of comments, with many social media users accusing the president of promoting propaganda and “judging an entire religion on the actions of a few people”.

The BBC reports that White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders disputed the argument that Trump had essentially retweeted fake news.

“Whether it’s a real video, the threat is real,” she said.

“I think it’s important to talk about national security and national security threats. The president sees different things to be national security threats, and he sees having strong borders as being one of the things that helps protect people in this country from some real threats that we face.”
