Michelle Payne is back! A big congratulations to Ms Payne for her first win since her tragic fall last year. After exactly a year since Ms Payne was on Prince Of Penzance in the Melbourne Cup, she beat the odds and surprised those who doubted her. Ms Payne rode Tavi Bay to win race one of the Red Rock Deli Plate on Oaks Day at Flemington Racecourse on Wednesday beating Spanner Head and Champagne Ready. “Henry (Dwyer) prepared her beautifully first up, he’s a great young trainer,” Ms Payne said. “He trialled her last week and Hell Or Highwater looked to have the better of her in the trial, but she improved off that. “Henry was confident and we got the money so it’s great.”
Trainer Henry Dwyer was ecstatic about getting his first win during the Melbourne spring carnival and was certainly pleased about Ms Payne’s ride.
“Terrific ride by Michelle there, as you would have seen,” Dywer said.
“Really big thrill, first winner I’ve ever had over Cup week.”
Look at her go! This is what determination and self belief looks like.

Just last month, Michelle Payne’s dreams of riding again was almost crushed when owners of Prince of Penzance, the horse she rode to victory last year, told her to consider retiring. But everything started to change when she was suddenly given a chance to ride again but on a different horse, Lucky Liberty, in a race at Sale in Victorias. She didn’t end up winning but that lost definitely did not stop Ms Payne from winning this time.
The minute Ms Payne and Tavi Bay won the race, social media users exploded with joy.
