Meryl Streep pulls off yet another stunning cinematic transformation

She's one of Hollywood's most glamorous leading ladies.

Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks posed for an elevator selfie in full costume on the set of their new movie with one lucky social media user.

The pair are in Manhattan filming Steven Spielberg’s latest biopic The Papers. 

This is the first time Streep and Hanks have starred on-screen together despite both enjoying several decades of success on the big and small screens.

Based on The Washington Post publisher Katharine “Kay” Graham’s Pulitzer Prize winning 1998 memoir, Personal History, Streep plays the title character, who tragically died in 2001 from a head injury. 

The biopic centres around her two-decade stewardship of her father’s newspaper, which was responsible for publishing the 1971 Pentagon Papers, a secret government history of the war in Vietnam and most notably, the Watergate scandal which led to then US-President Richard Nixon’s resignation in 1974 under the threat of impeachment. 

Emerging from a 70s-era taxi cab outside The Plaza Hotel in Manhattan, New York, the soon-to-be 68-year-old Streep donned a teased-up mouse-brown wig to better resemble Graham. 

Streep will celebrate her birthday June 22.

The thrice-awarded Oscar-winner donned a blue blazer and matching pencil skirt with buckled pump and pearls chosen by costume designer. 

Tom Hanks also stars as The Post’s executive and Graham’s executive editor Ben Bradlee who challenged the US government over the rights to publish the Pentagon Papers. 

He took to social media to show off some of the set design and added his signature Hanks’ humour.

This is Hanks’ fifth collaboration with Spielberg having previously worked together on Saving Private Ryan (1998), Catch Me If You Can (2002), The Terminal (2004), and Bridge of Spies (2015).
