Men’s relay team bring home the bronze

After four long years of training the Australian 4x100m men’s freestyle relay team will be standing on the podium to claim their bronze medal after a nail-baiting race only minutes ago.

The Australian team suffered a crushing defeat in the same race in London fours years ago, where they were the hot favourites to win but ended up coming in fourth place.

Today’s team of James Roberts, Kyle Chalmers, James Magnussen and Cameron McEvoy put on a stella effort to come back from behind and win the bronze. After falling behind to fifth place in the second and third leg, McEvoy powered home to come in third with his team loudly cheering him on from the pool deck.

McEvoy and Magnussen were part of the team that swam in London race and have said they wanted to make up for letting victory slip through their fingers in 2012.

Australia had a disappointing year in the pool at the London Olympics, with controversy over late night antics and swimmers getting caught taking the sleeping drug Stilnox.

Proving they’ve put it all behind them though, the boys worked as one in the pool today and put on a great show for all their supporters here at home cheering them on.

Well done, boys!

Join us in wishing them congratulations on a great effort and good luck for the rest of their races!

Did you see the race? Are you following the swimming?
