Melania Trump set to meet everyone’s favourite British royal

Melania Trump is preparing to spread her wings and fly, with the White House announcing she will embark on her first solo international trip in September.

Trump will travel to Toronto, Canada to represent the United States at the Invictus Games – the competition for wounded veterans founded by Prince Harry.

“I was heartened by the great success of the inaugural Invictus Games that took place in London in 2014, and the second games in Orlando, Florida last year,” she said in a statement issued by the White House.

“In just two short years, the Invictus Games have allowed thousands of injured and wounded servicemen and women from many different countries to participate in adaptive sports competitions – something that should be lauded and supported worldwide. I am honoured by the opportunity to represent our country at this year’s games.”

Prince Harry founded the Invictus Games in 2014 and since then they have gained popularity and recognition around the world due to their inspiring nature and show of resilience.

While the trip will be the first meeting between a British royal and a member of the Trump family, it’s not the first time the young royal has met a US first lady.

Harry became firm friends with Michelle Obama her husband at the Games in Orlando last year and has kept the friendship alive, catching up with the former president in London in May.

The first lady’s international trip will no doubt attract plenty of attention given President Trump was forced to cancel his plans to visit Britain earlier this year because of protests.

Brits were outraged by the idea of the president meeting their Queen, with 1.8 million signing a petition arguing he should be banned from her presence “because it would cause embarrassment to Her Majesty the Queen”.

The Invictus Games will be held from the 23 to 30 September.
