‘Malcolm will win the next election’: Dutton

Malcolm Turnbull is gearing up for the 2019 Federal Election.

If you ask Peter Dutton, Malcolm Turnbull is a shoe-in for the next election.

The Immigration minister, who is often tipped to take the PM’s job one day, told Sky News he was certain Turnbull would lead the Liberal Party to the next election and claim victory.

“I think we can win the next election with Malcolm Turnbull as prime minister and certainly that is what I am dedicating myself to do,” he told Sky News on Sunday.

He also disputed any ideas that Opposition leader Bill Shorten would come out on top in 2019.

“If you know Bill Shorten, then you know he is a shonk and a phoney. That’s the reality he is … at least as insincere as Kevin Rudd was.”

Turnbull’s prime ministerships has been plagued by a slim majority in the Senate and a series of political drama involving his Cabinet.

He was forced to lay down the law for pollies on both sides of the aisle after a number of MPs and Senators were found to have misused travel allowances, including his former Health Minister Sussan Ley, and saw party members drop like flies throughout the dual citizenship scandal.

For all the lows though, Turnbull can claim more than a few notable highs, including legalising same-sex marriage and signing the Trans-Pacific Partnership.

Will it be enough to guarantee him a spot at the next election though?
