As you might have heard, the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras is on this weekend.

Ahead of the event, there’s an ad doing the rounds on social media and TV and it’s got a beautiful message at heart.

The ad depicts a family sitting around a table having a barbecue.

Everyone in the family puts barbecue sauce on their food, when the son stands up and has a secret to share.

It turns out the secret is that he likes tomato sauce.

The father laughs but the son says seriously “Dad, I’m a tomato sauce man – always have been”.

If you didn’t initially pick up on it, the sauce is used as a metaphor for someone coming out as gay.

The ad’s message is “A simple difference shouldn’t be a big deal” and the father and families reactions are beautiful!

And it’s the grandma in the ad that steals the show.

At the very end she quips – “You know, in 1964, I tried tomato sauce”.

How beautiful is this?!

Do you like the message the ad is trying to get across? Do you have a loved one who is gay or lesbian?
