Remember the furore over Australia Post boss Ahmed Fahour’s multi-million dollar salary?

Well, it’s been ignited again – this time by  Mr Fahour himself.

The outgoing Australia Post CEO has had one last dig at his critics, speaking openly about the salary scandal he found himself embroiled in.

Speaking to graduates at the University of NSW Business School on Wednesday, Mr Fahour revealed he was “bemused” by the outrage over his $5.6 million salary.

“It’s not as if I held a gun to the government’s head or to the board’s head and said if you don’t pay me this I’m not going to do this job,” he said, according to The Australian.

“This was what was offered, this is what I was told I had to do and I went about doing my job.”

At the time of the scandal criticism against Mr Fahour came from everywhere – including One Nation senator Pauline Hanson and Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull, who described his salary as “too high”.

The Australian reports that Mr Fahour told the graduates at the University of NSW that he didn’t deserve the way he was treated, and went on to say he’d pick his next job carefully.

“I was bemused because there were some CEOs who were doing some things that were not so great to their secretaries and some were not running their businesses very well and they seemed to keep their jobs and nobody seemed to care about what they were being paid,” he said.

“But somehow, some people took a great delight in the fact that I did my job successfully and I got paid what I was told I was going to get paid.”

What do you think of Ahmed Fahour’s comments?

Do you think he was treated unfairly? or did he deserve criticism over his pay?
