‘Days of Our Lives’ Patricia Barry dies aged 93

It’s a sad day for television as Patricia Barry, a mainstay of daytime television who appeared on ‘Days of Our Lives’, ‘Guiding Light’ and ‘All My Children’, has died. She was 93.

Barry died at her Los Angeles home on Tuesday, a publicist for the actress said Wednesday, reports Daily Mail.

The Iowa-born Barry made more than 100 appearances in TV, film and theater.
She made a mark in TV movie-of-the-weeks like 1959’s ‘The Wicked Scheme of Jebel Deeks,’ with Alec Guinness, and alongside Sid Caesar and Ronald Reagan in 1961’s ‘The Devil You Say’.

Barry also acted in 1949’s ‘Riders of the Whistling Pines’ with Gene Autry; 1964’s ‘Send Me No Flowers’ with Doris Day and Rock Hudson; and the New York Yankees 1962 film ‘Safe at Home!’
However, Barry may have been best known for long-running stints on daytime soap operas especially ‘Days of Our Lives’ in which she played Addie Horton Williams from 1971 to 1974.

Her first professional role came in a 1944 production of ‘Laughing Water’ by Henry and Phoebe Ephron and she soon begun landing roles on Broadway.

But her big break actually came after she won a Rita Hayworth look-alike contest and was signed by Warner Bros – her big screen debut came in 1946 as a showgirl in Her Kind of Man.

Barry was also one of the earliest members of Women in Film and a former president of the nonprofit advocacy organisation.

She was married to TV producer Philip Barry, who died in 1998.

Barry is survived by her two daughters, Miranda Barry and Stephanie Barry Agnew, and two grandchildren.
