Being ambushed by two hooded robbers would be a terrifying ordeal but one Queensland store assistant, who encountered exactly that, was faced with what could quite possibly be the dumbest pair of thugs ever.

In footage aired by 7 News, the unidentified store worker can be seen on camera behind the counter. When the quick-thinking staff cashier sees the two robbers approaching the store, he pushes a button to try and lock them out however he wasn’t quick enough and actually locks the men inside the store with him.

One of the robbers can be seen pretending to hold a gun, although on closer inspection it is revealed to be nothing more sinister than a weeding fork. Trying to intimidate the worker into handing over money, the robber can be seen smashing the tool around the counter before, hilariously, it snaps.

The other robber, who is wearing socks on both hands, then attempts to distract the worker by hurling a bottle of shampoo behind the counter. However, after realising that they aren’t getting anywhere, the duo then try to threaten the worker by wielding a kitchen spatula.

The two men quickly realise their demand for cash isn’t working, so they grab a charity tin raising funds for Life Light, and try to flee the scene – just to be stumped again when they realise the door is locked. One of the crooks can be seen attempting to open the door using the kitchen utensil, before his accomplice uses a fire extinguisher and the stolen charity tin to smash through the glass window to freedom.

However the bungling thieves could have saved themselves a lot of time and effort if they’d simply pushed an emergency exit button located next to the door, which would have let them out.

“I don’t know how they could have missed that one. I really don’t,” a store worker told 7 News.

Further footage shows the worker opening the door anyway, meaning their destruction was completely unnecessary. According to the report, the robbers later stole alcohol from a nearby hotel.

When the comical clip was shared on Facebook, viewers had plenty to say about the men and their silly plan.

One person wrote: “So sorry that the worker was probably sh****** themselves at the time but eventually they would have burst into hysterical laughter, when they pulled out the cooking utensils.” While another joked: “Give me all your money… or I will hit you with this spatula.”

A third added: “Holy crap!!! If these geniuses had a sling shot the clerk would have been murdered for sure. Glad the man was not harmed. Hope they find these road scholars and send them on a little trip.”
