Allen’s are bringing back one of your favourite sweet treats

It looks like absence may really make the heart grow fonder, as Allen's popup bars at Christmas had customers buying up big on the green sweet.

Whenever we ask Starts at 60 readers what one thing is that they miss the most from their childhoods, the answers are often food related (Pollywaffle, anyone?).

It seems that a lot of prepackaged treats that used to be favourites are no longer available, much to the disappointment of their fans.

However, in exciting news for some sweet toothed Aussies, Allen’s lollies are bringing back their green frogs!

Yes, the much maligned brother to the universally loved red frog is coming back.

The green frog was only taken out of production two years ago, after Allen’s executives decided that people just weren’t buying enough of them. But it looks like absence may really make the heart grow fonder, as Allen’s popup bars at Christmas had customers buying up big on the green sweet.

“Last year, Green Frogs made a special appearance at the Allen’s Lolly Bar in Sydney, and were a smash hit, selling out in just three days,” said Anna Stewart, Nestlé Head of Confectionery Marketing, in a statement.

This resulted in Allen’s making the decision to bring back the green frog, as well as adding two new flavours to the frog family. Along with the classic red and green, there will also be yellow and orange – pineapple and orange flavours.

“It’s clear our lolly lovers are a passionate bunch, and we hope our new Frog Family ignites fond memories, creates smiles in homes nationwide, and excites people’s tastebuds with the fabulous new flavours,” Stewart said.

The new variety packs of frogs will be available from your nearest Coles, IGA and selected convenience outlets from 23rd August.
