Charles feels sorry for ‘poor old’ George on first school day

While the world excitedly watched on as Prince George arrived for his first day of school on Wednesday, his grandfather, Prince Charles, was doing what most grandparents would — worrying about how the tiny tyke would get on throughout the day!

George was photographed nervously walking towards his new school Thomas’s Battersea with his dad on Wednesday while the world’s press watched on and it seems Charles was keenly keeping an eye on things too.

The future king told British television station ITV that he felt for little George, but laughed when asked if he’d given his first grandchild any advice for his first day.

“Of course not. He wouldn’t take it from me I don’t think at that age!” he exclaimed.

“Poor old thing. He’s being left there to have to get on with it when the parents go away is always the problem.”

But he added that he believed the experience was actually a good thing for his four-year-old grandson.

“It’s good for you in the end, I suppose,” he said. “It’s character building, I suppose.”

He continued to explain that “at that age, you don’t worry quite so much about going to school as you do when you get a big older.”

It appears Charles had nothing to worry about though. After dropping off George at school, Prince William attended a reception for England’s Under-20 soccer team, where E! News reports he told head coach Paul Simpson that his son had a “good day.”

“There was one other parent who had more of an issue with their children, so I was quite pleased I wasn’t the one!” William said. “It was really nice, actually. It’s a nice school.”
