Trump mocked for saying he’s ‘PROBABLY’ Time’s Man of the Year

Donald Trump has been publicly mocked by Time magazine and mercilessly trolled by one of the world’s biggest sport stars after claiming he was in line for Time’s Person of the Year title again.

The president was bestowed with the honour last year and tweeted on Saturday that the magazine had called to say he was “PROBABLY” going to receive the title again, but said he turned them down.

“Time Magazine called to say that I was PROBABLY going to be named ‘Man (Person) of the Year,’ like last year, but I would have to agree to an interview and a major photo shoot. I said probably is no good and took a pass. Thanks anyway!” he tweeted to his 34 million followers.

After Time quickly rebuked his claim, saying the president was “incorrect” about how they choose the Person of the Year, tennis star Andy Murray jumped on board to take a dig at the Commander-in-Chief.

“Bbc just called to say I was PROBABLY going to be named sports personality of the year but I would have to agree to an interview and a major photo shoot. I said probably is no good and took a pass. Thanks anyway!” he wrote, much to the enjoyment of his followers.

He was soon joined by Time editor Richard Stengel, a former Barack Obama staffer, who tweeted: “Hate to tell you but that PROBABLY means you’re NOT Person of the Year. They just wanted a photo shoot. But I’m sure you still have that fake TIME cover somewhere in storage.”

Another Twitter user pointed out that this is the fifth time Trump has tried to generate talk about being named Person of the Year, despite the fact he has continuously rubbished the magazine in the past.

Time will announce the official Person of the Year for 2017 on December 6.
