The Duchess of Cambridge looked lovely in lace when she stepped out for a charity gala at Kensington Palace on Tuesday night.

Catherine, 35, who is expecting her third child with Prince William, attended the gala in support of the Anna Freud National Centre for Children and Families, one of the charities she supports in the mental health sector.

The duchess was a picture of elegance as she greeted guests, dressed in a fitted, floor-length, black lace gown. Known for recycling her favourite ensembles, the duchess wore the same £785 ( A$1,350, US$1,033) Diane Von Furstenberg gown while she was pregnant with Princess Charlotte in 2014.

Keeping her look simple, Catherine wore her thick brunette locks in effortless waves for the occasion and kept her makeup to a minimum. The young royal finished the ensemble with a pair of sparkling earrings and a simple black clutch, but upped the glamour factor with an eye-catching diamond bracelet.

Ahead of the event, the duchess met supporters and those who have been helped by the Anna Freud Centre. A longtime supporter, Catherine visited their Early Years Parenting unit that supports families with children under five in January.

Maternal mental health, being an important theme of her work, Kate hosted a private discussion last week at the palace to hear more from experts, including the Anna Freud Centre.

Kate and Prince William announced their pregnancy in early September, releasing a statement a month later revealing that the baby is due for April 2018.

Do you think Kate pulled off this recycled look? Have you ever recycled a gown?
