Just months after he wowed fans with his epic Carpool Karaoke session, Sir Paul McCartney has made another incredible return to our TV screens as he joined forces with comedian Jimmy Fallon and pulled the ultimate prank on unsuspecting fans in an elevator – leaving many in fits of laughter and utter shock.

In the video, shared on Facebook, the music legend and television personality join together for a segment on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and are first seen relaxing on couches in dressing gowns while reading the newspaper.

The aim of the game is to surprise full elevators of people who are happily carrying out their day to day tasks. The lift doors have been set up to open quickly on their floor, before closing again before anyone has time to leave.

At the start of the funny video, the first set of people are left gobsmacked as the doors open to reveal Jimmy dropping his newspaper down to reveal his face. However, the excitement reaches fever pitch as Paul then follows suit – leading to screams of “Oh My God” and “what” as they crowd realises who is sitting just metres from them.

On another occasion, one woman, obviously a major fan of the Beatles legend, starts to fall to her knees with her hands covering her mouth to contain her scream of excitement, before trying to walk out of the elevator towards Paul – only to be guided back inside by the lift operator.

Door after door, fans are left in disbelief after unexpectedly catching a glimpse of the star, pointing and shouting in astonishment. One person even confesses their childhood dream shortly after, saying: “I thought when I was little I was going to marry Paul McCartney. So that’s the closest I’ve ever got and I am thrilled.”

The video has gained huge attention, with thousands of people commenting on how much they wish they could have been standing in the lift themselves.

“I would’ve passed out if I ever saw Paul in person, and then wake up and cry because I passed out in front of him and missed my chance of meeting him lol,” one person wrote.

“There is NO WAY someone would be able to hold me back. I would have jumped right out of that elevator and gave SIR Paul a hug!!” another said.

This is the second time in just a matter of months Paul has braced television screens, appearing in The Late Late Show‘s popular Carpool Karaoke segment with TV host James Corden in June.

The 24-minute clip sees Paul sing some of The Beatles’ best loved tracks, including ‘Penny Lane’, ‘Blackbird’ and ‘Drive My Car’, but it was his emotion-fuelled rendition of 1970 track ‘Let It Be’ that left the British funnyman in tears. Corden could be seen wiping his eyes before telling McCartney, “It got me emotional there Paul. It’s too much for me.”
