How Dame Judi Dench celebrated her 83rd birthday

She’s been entertaining the world for decades and Dame Judi Dench has celebrated her 83rd birthday.

Her big day was officially on December 9, and it looks like the famed actress celebrated with her family at a local Chinese restaurant.

Taking to Twitter, her daughter Finty Williams shared a photo of her beloved mother blowing out the candles on her cake.

While the number fell a bit short of 83, Dench looked positively thrilled with her cake.

While a Woolworths mud cake is quite the tradition in Australia, a cake in the shape of a caterpillar known as Colin the Caterpillar has been a favourite for children and adults alike in the UK for years.

In the photo, the Philomena star could be seen smiling from ear-to-ear as she proudly held her cake.

“Happy birthday my beautiful, wonderful, inspirational Mama,” Williams captioned the photo.

Fans of the actress flooded social media with well-wishes.

One person wrote: “A caterpillar cake!!! Officially couldn’t be any cooler.”

A second message read: “Happy Birthday from me please! What a human being and what an inspiration she is!!”

A third fan added: “Never too old for a Colin the Caterpillar cake! Happy Birthday Dame Judi.”

Despite being well into her eighties, the actress has showed no signs of slowing down.

This year alone she’s starred in three Hollywood blockbusters, with three more films set to be released in the new year.

Her adorable birthday comes after the Victoria and Abdul star revealed the lovely way she remembers her family and friends who have died.

According to reports, the star has turned her back garden into a shrine of sorts to all the friends she’s lost. Described as a “memorial forest”, it’s a way for Dench to always remember those she held dearest.

“I’ve turned my six-acre garden into a secret woodland, and I see my trees as my extended family,” EWN reports the star revealing on her BBC documentary, Judi Dench, My Passion For Trees.
We’re sure all those who loved her most would be looking down on her for her big birthday.
