Ellen DeGeneres’ loved-up African holiday with wife Portia de Rossi

US comedian Ellen DeGeneres is living the dream! Ellen and wife Portia de Rossi have been trekking through Africa for the past week — and it looks like the loved-up couple are thoroughly enjoying themselves.

The talk show host has been time to documenting all the exciting details on social media and described her experience at coming face to face with a mountain gorilla as life changing.

Taking to Twitter she wrote: “I can’t begin to describe what this experience was like, or how much it means to me. I’m so grateful.”

She also shared a snap of herself posing with gorillas in the background, adding the caption: “We found them.”

The famous couple, who have been married for 10 years, are in Africa to establish a permanent home for mountain gorillas as part of the Ellen DeGeneres Wildlife Fund.

In honour of Ellen’s admiration for conversationist Dian Fossey, who was murdered in 1985, Portia established the Ellen DeGenerous Campus of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund in Rwanda.

“Ellen’s always been a huge admirer of Dian Fossey and her work with the gorillas,” Portia said when she surprised Ellen with the birthday gift on her daytime talk show in February. “Ellen shares Dian’s dedication to animals and the bravery in how Dian lived her life.”

The couple also had time to dine with giraffes in Kenya at the weekend. Ellen shared a video of Portia ordering breakfast at Giraffe Manor, a small hotel in Nairobi that serves as a home to a number of endangered giraffes.

In another video, a giraffe is seen taking treats from Portia’s hand. “Portia hasn’t met a giraffe she didn’t like,” Ellen commented.

And in one video, Ellen is seen feeding a giraffe and whispering some flirty words: “Your eyes are so pretty. You’re so pretty”.

Then the entertainment star shared a snap outside with a look of sheer joy and excitement on her face as she got up close to a giraffe.

Ellen has made no secret of her passion for animals and protect endangered wildlife. She became a vegan after recording her role as Dory in Pixar film, Finding Nemo, and has openly supported animal shelters and charities in her hometown on Los Angeles. She and Portia are also the proud owners and cats and dogs, all saved from death row.

Taking to Twitter on Thursday, she posted a loved-up snap and her and Portia with a majestic gorilla in the background and wrote: “I’ve waited my whole life to make this trip.”
