They’re arguably one of the most talked about couples who have ever lived in the White House and Donald Trump has hit back at claims that his wife hates being First Lady of the United States.

Publication Vanity Fair ran an article last week claiming that Melania never wanted to take up the role when her husband became America’s 45th President.

Titled “She didn’t want this come hell or high water”, the article suggested that Mrs Trump can’t stand living in the White House and despises her role as the First Lady.

It implied that she forced Donald to make a decision about running for presidency and became upset when he went on to win – because it meant that she would have to take on a more serious role.

“This isn’t something she wanted and it isn’t something he ever thought he’d win,” an unidentified friend told the publication.

“She didn’t want this come hell or high water. I don’t think she thought it was going to happen.”

Given that the 47-year-old is rarely seen smiling in public and has been spotted on numerous occasions avoiding public displays of affection with her husband, it’s easy to see how such an article could be portrayed as true.

Donald has now hit back at the publication in another example of what he calls “fake news”.

Taking to Twitter, the 71-year-old said that his wife loves being First Lady.

He told his 43.5 million followers: “Melania, our great and very hard working First Lady, who truly loves what she is doing, always thought that ‘if you run, you will win.’

“She would tell everyone that, “no doubt, he will win.” I also felt I would win (or I would not have run) – and Country is doing great!”

He also retweeted photos of his wife smiling and hugging children after his initial tweets.

Melania’s spokeswomen Stephanie Grisham also slammed the reports.

“As a magazine tailored to women it is shameful that they continue to write salacious and false stories meant to demean Mrs Trump, rather than focus on her positive work as First Lady as a supportive wife and mother,” she said.

“As has been stated on the record many times before, she is honoured by her role.”

What do you think? Is Melania happy to be First Lady or do you think she hates the role?
