The Duchess of Cornwall attends plenty of solemn events in her role as a royal, but this was a charity do with a difference, and she clearly enjoyed the change.
Financial firm ICAP was raising money for charity with fancy dress at its offices in London, and her attendance at the event saw Camilla come face to face with more ‘Donald Trumps’ than she likely ever thought she’d meet. The duchess couldn’t help but laugh and stop for a photo with the ‘Trumps’, saying “I couldn’t resist!”.
The real Donald Trump is due to visit Britain in February, despite a spat with Prime Minister Theresa May after the US president retweeted videos posted by a far-right group, prompting May to say ‘it was the wrong thing to do”. During the visit he could well meet with members of the Royal Family, including Camilla.
The 70-year-old duchess herself eschewed fancy dress for the ICAP event, instead opting for an elegant moss-green suit jacket over a matching dress, brightened up with a large diamond moth brooch and pearl earrings.
The shoulder pads and trim waist of the jacket were reminiscent of ladies’ ‘power suits’ of the 1980s and early ’90s, when they were de rigueur for female office workers.
As usual, she opted for sensible court heels and black opaque tights to ward off the winter chill in the capital.
Now in its 25th year, the ICAP charity event has raised nearly £135 million (A$238m, US$181m) to date and supported more than 2,200 charities around the world, the Daily Mail reported.
The company and its brokers commit to donating all revenues and commissions for one day’s trading to a selected group of charities, and dress in crazy costumes to do it. One of many charities set to benefit from this year’s ICAP event is Medical Detection Dogs, of which Camilla is patron, which trains dogs to identify the odour of cancer.
Clarence House, where Camilla lives with Prince Charles, posted series of snaps from the event, with the main one showing the duchess meeting a far more tame ‘elf’, rather than the Trump lookalikes.
