If you’re a fan of British comedy, then doubt you remember the hilarious 1980’s TV show ‘Allo ‘Allo!

Sadly, the man behind one of the main characters of the hit TV series has died.

Gorden Kaye, who played Rene – the French cafe owner  in ‘Allo ‘Allo! has died aged 75.

His publicist confirmed the news overnight, stating that Kaye had passed away at a care home.

While you might remember Kaye best for his portrayal has Rene in ‘Allo ‘Allo!, he also starred in a number of other hit British TV series including a stint on Coronation Street in 1969, It Ain’t Half Hot Mum and Come Back Mrs Noah.

He also starred in Dimes in Porridge alongside Ronnie Barker in 1979.

Tributes have flowed on social media to the actor, including a heartfelt tribute from Vicki Michelle who played his mistress in ‘Allo ‘Allo!

“So sad to hear news of Gorden Kaye ,” she wrote on Twitter.

“A brilliantly talented actor consummate professional, loved the world over. There’ll never be another Rene.”

Interestingly enough, Kaye almost died back in 1990 when a wooden sign smashed through his car windscreen during a storm. He required brain surgery afterwards.
