Overdrawn accounts baffles customers in bank error

Some Suncorp customers were unable to withdraw from their accounts today as they were showing as overdrawn.

If you checked your bank account earlier today and noticed you were missing some money you are not alone.

In a series of messages posted on social media, Suncorp Bank has advised some of their customer’s account balances were showing incorrect amounts.

And going by the messages left by customers on Facebook, it appears some of the accounts were missing several hundred dollars, and showing they were overdrawn.

Customers have been advised there won’t be any overdraw fees as a result of the error.

By 3pm Suncorp reported the problems had been rectified, and apologising for the inconvenience.

Despite this, customers were reporting their accounts were still missing money, with some claiming only half their money had been returned.

Other went on to say after waiting on hold to talk to the call centre they were told the funds would not be available in their accounts again until after midnight.

In 2010 Suncorp suffered major internet banking problems flowing from an upgrade conducted over one weekend.

A statement issued by the company said they had upgraded their Internet Banking system and had experienced some teething problems.

It might be the explanation also for their latest issues.

Suncorp is in the process of transferring their operations to Flexcube core banking technology, reported earlier this month as having had a setback in the migration, taking much longer than expected to complete the overhaul.

If you have concerns about your bank balance, Suncorp requests customers call 13 11 75.
