Queensland is a nature-lovers paradise, it has everything one could want for a getaway including stretches of sandy white beaches, tropical rainforests, crystal clear waters and an expansive outback. Whether you’re looking to soak up the sunshine and lay about on a towel on the beach, or be enriched by the history of the towns and regions, the Sunshine State won’t disappoint.

North Queensland in particular will surely blow your mind, especially if you love the hot weather. Cairns is the heart of the region and serves as the starting point for many adventures in the north of the state. You can take a trip up to the Daintree where the rainforest meets the beach and hike along the many tracks, or rest your legs and take a zipline overhead and then cool off in Emmagen Creek.

Then there’s gorgeous Port Douglas which lies at the centre of the Great Barrier Reef Drive. It’s equally as beautiful as the bigger cities in the region, but much smaller, with a population of just over 3,000. Perhaps what it’s most well-known for is the famous Four Mile Beach – and it’s clear to see why – the views are spectacular!

It’s easy to go on for hours about how beautiful and welcoming North Queensland is, but you really need to see it for yourself. So, Travel at 60 has taken some of the hard work out of your hands and compiled a few fantastic deals within the region.

Experience the highlights of North Queensland on a 4-night rainforest to reef adventure, taking you from Cairns to Cooktown, Cape Tribulation and back again. You’ll have an experienced driver and guide with you to share their knowledge and history of the region, so all you have to do is sit back and relax.

You’ll see the very best of the the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Daintree National Park, experience the excitement of the 4WD-only Bloomfield Track and the unspoilt beauty and incredible cultural heritage of historic Cooktown. And with departures up until the end of November this year, it’s the perfect way to explore your own backyard and unwind after what’s been a chaotic 2020.

Or, if it’s Port Douglas you want to see, you can enjoy three nights in the gorgeous town where you can relax before taking a scenic flight to Cooktown over the Coral Sea, and then explore the historic town with a guide. You’ll also enjoy a return coach journey via the Mulligan Highway and see the distinct difference between the two bordering environments of the coastal rainforest and outback.

Meanwhile, for something even more relaxing, perhaps Palm Cove will take your fancy? The small town has a population of just over 2,000, and is located just 30 minutes north of Cairns and 40 minutes south of Port Douglas. Many travellers enjoy hiring a kayak in the early morning and paddling out to watch the sunrise over the ocean, or if you really want to treat yourself there’s plenty of spas dotted throughout the small town, so you can pop in for a relaxing massage.

As part of Travel at 60’s holiday deal you stay right by the beach, with the accommodation only a short walk from the ocean. You’ll have easy access to the region’s attractions and as a bonus you can stay for five nights and pay for only four! All rooms in the hotel have private balconies or terraces which overlook beautiful gardens or a swimming pool. It sounds like pure bliss.
