Australians have voted for their top-rated cleaning products across a range of categories, with some more affordable household names landing among the winners.
The results came from comparison website Finder’s 2020/2021 Retail Awards, which surveyed more than 3,000 Aussie consumers to find the best of everything from oven cleaners to fabric softeners.
Coming out on top were some more affordable household names, with 98 per cent of consumers recommending Aldi for fabric softeners and 94 per cent opting for Woolworths Essentials for toilet cleaners.
But name brands were also popular among Aussie cleaners, with Cold Power winning best laundry detergent, Ambi Pur for best air freshener, Windex for glass cleaner and Pine O Cleen for carpet and floor cleaners.
Meanwhile, Shine won the best dishwashing detergent, Scotch-Brite won for cloths, scourers and sponges, Hillmark for oven and cooktop cleaners, LG for stick vacuum cleaners, Sard for bleach and disinfectant, Kärcher for carpet and floor cleaner appliances and Ajax for all purpose cleaners.
Popular, high-end brand Dyson was the only name to enter the winners list twice, taking out the best barrel vacuum cleaner as well as the best air purifier.
According to a Finder analysis of the Household, Income and Labour Dynamics data, prior to the pandemic, Aussies spent an average of 17 hours per week, or 876 hours per year, on household work.
By pinpointing the top products on the market, Kate Browne, retail expert at Finder, said Australians could save both time and money on their total amount of cleaning.
“With Aussies spending more time at home, and making more of a mess while we’re there, the good news is you needn’t clock up more hours cleaning,” she said. “If you have the right products and know the best cleaning hacks, you can clean efficiently, which means more time for the things you love.”
