One lucky Aussie could be $1 million dollars richer simply for receiving their Covid-19 vaccine, thanks to the Million Dollar Vax campaign.

The campaign has been created by the Million Dollar Vax Alliance, a group of philanthropists and corporations who aim to get the national vaccination rate to 80 per cent as soon as possible.

Up for grabs is $4.1 million worth of prizes, which includes 100 daily $1,000 gift cards in addition to the ultimate million dollar prize which will be drawn on November 5.

Craig Winkler from the Million Dollar Vax Alliance said the promotion’s purpose is not to convince people to get vaccinated.

“The promotion simply seeks to reward people who decide to be vaccinated now rather than waiting, so that we can reduce the community impact of the COVID-19 pandemic,” he said.

“The aim is to accelerate Australia’s COVID-19 vaccination program in a safe way throughout the month of October.

“The faster we reach higher vaccination rates nationally, higher than 80%, the sooner we all can safely resume our full range of community and business activity.”

Philanthropy Australia CEO, Jack Heath hopes the campaign will “save lives, ease the burden on healthcare workers, and benefit the wider community.”

The Million Dollar Vax campaign is not the first initiative to encourage Australians to roll up their sleeves and get inoculated, earlier this year some of Australia’s biggest performers joined forces for the Vax The Nation campaign.

Qantas also encouraged Australians to get the jab with a tear-jerking advertisement as part of their ‘Be Rewarded’ campaign.

The Million Dollar Vax was inspired by a similar initiative in Ohio named ‘Vax-A-Million’ that offered a cash prize and college scholarships.

Just over 79 per cent of Australians aged 16 and over have already received at least one dose while 57.4 per cent are now fully vaccinated against the virus.

All Australians aged 18 and over are eligible to enter, with those already vaccinated still eligible to win.
