Cleaning around the house can often be a mundane, never-ending chore and no matter how much effort you put into it you’re bound to miss something on your cleaning roster.
One such item that can often be overlooked is the humble kitchen kettle, which if you can’t remember the last time you cleaned it, might be time to take a deep breath, look inside and give it a scrub.
Fortunately, an Australian mum has taken to social media to share a genius way to give the kettle a deep clean using one simple natural ingredient.
The woman, who goes by the handle Mama_Mila, used nothing more than a lemon and some boiling water to remove built-up limescale. She captioned the video, “The natural, no-scrub way to rid kettle limescale”.

Mama_Mila then shares the super simple steps to deep clean your kettle. Firstly, fill the kettle with water and add one slice of lemon. Boil the kettle twice and allow it to sit for 30 minutes before emptying out the water. The last step in the process is to simply rinse out the kettle and just like that your kitchen appliance will be sparkling clean.
It’s believed the acidity in the lemons acts as a natural cleaning product, breaking down any mould or bacteria in the kettle.
The clever hack had users raving about the results after giving it go themselves.
“My hubby didn’t believe that this would work!! Loved proving him wrong.”
“This really works, thanks!”
“I just did this to my kettle. Amazing result. Thank you.”
Other users shared their own hacks, claiming citric acid provides similar results.
“Citric acid also does a treat, only a couple dollars.”
