Royal fans are praising the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge for publicly congratulating Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan, Duchess of Sussex on the arrival of their new baby girl considering the drama that has enveloped the royal family over the last few months.

Since Harry and Meghan stepped back from royal life more than a year ago, the couple have taken several digs at the royal family. Most memorably in the explosive tell-all chat with Oprah Winfrey, where Meghan claimed Catherine made her cry before her wedding, while Harry criticised his brother William and father Prince Charles and claimed they were “trapped” in royal life.

Well, it seems that whatever was said on television several months ago is well and truly behind the Cambridges, who took to social media earlier today to personally congratulate the Sussexes on the happy baby news.

William and Catherine uploaded a picture from Meghan’s pregnancy announcement photoshoot, which shows Harry cuddling up to Meghan as she holds their son Archie, with the sweet caption: “We are all delighted by the happy news of the arrival of baby Lili. Congratulations to Harry, Meghan and Archie.”

Royal fans were equally impressed by the classy gesture, with one commenting: “Great respect for that post.”

Another said: “So very gracious of you after everything — first class as always.” While a third wrote, “I never expected less than graciousness from the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.”

Lilibet ‘Lili’ Diana Mountbatten-Windsor was born on Friday morning in Santa Barbara, California, according to a statement released by Harry and Meghan on Sunday night.

“On June 4th, we were blessed with the arrival of our daughter, Lili,” Harry and Meghan said.

“She is more than we could have ever imagined, and we remain grateful for the love and prayers we’ve felt from across the globe.

“Thank you for your continued kindness and support during this very special time for our family.”

Lilibet was a nickname given to the Queen when she was a child because she couldn’t say ‘Elizabeth’ properly. It was how the late Prince Philip lovingly referred to his wife in private for much of their marriage, and indeed it’s believed he was the last person who still called her by her nickname. Lilibet is the Queen’s 11th great grandchild.
