Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, has penned a heartfelt letter to a young boy, praising him for his incredible fundraising efforts to help support the hospital that saved his life.

Tony Hudgell, 5, was just 41 days old when he was admitted to hospital with multiple fractures of all his limbs, dislocations of various joints, blunt trauma to his face and many other injuries. The doctors and nurses at the hospital in the United Kingdom worked tirelessly over three months to save his life, but sadly in 2017 due to his injuries and infection he had to have both his legs amputated.

But, despite this tragedy, Tony has raised more than £1 million (AU$1,182,000) for the National Health Service. In just 30 days, the brave youngster completed a 10 kilometre walking challenge with his two prosthetic legs to support the Evelina London Children’s Hospital.

Now, Catherine has reached out to Tony to commend him for his efforts and express her admiration of what he has achieved. The beautiful letter has since been shared on Instagram via a page sharing Tony’s journey.

“Dear Tony, I wanted to send my congratulations following your amazing fundraising efforts for Evelina London Children’s Hospital,” the letter read. “It was wonderful to hear how you were inspired by Captain Sir Tom Moore’s story to carry out your own walk. I am very impressed that you carried on even after reaching your target of 10km!

“I know that your efforts have been hugely appreciated by Evelina, and we are all so proud of what you have achieved.” The duchess added: “I hope that you manage to have a very well deserved rest before starting on your next adventure – whatever that may be! Catherine.”

The post has received much attention from Tony’s friends and followers, with dozens of comments and words of encouragement for the young boy who despite his hardships has helped many others.

“What an incredible boy! Such an inspiration on so many levels! @mm6163 commented on the post.

“You deserve this and more,” @traveller.fangirl said. While @ralph_debbie added: “And I couldn’t think of anyone more deserving than Tony!”
