Sarah ‘Fergie’ Ferguson is mourning a long-time friend who reportedly died of cancer during the coronavirus pandemic.

Speaking to Haircuts4Homeless founder Stewart Roberts on his podcast Hear Me See Me, the mother-of-two spoke openly about the sad situation revealing to fans that she was unable to attend her friend’s funeral due to lockdown measures.

Asked how she’s been affected by the lockdown, she explained: “One of my oldest friends died of cancer, about three weeks ago, and I longed to say goodbye to her, and I think there are many, many people all over the world that can’t say the proper goodbyes to their loved ones.”

On a more positive note, the Duchess of York revealed that her new foundation, Sarah’s Trust, would be looking to help those that were unable to say goodbye to family and friends amid the coronavirus pandemic.

“I think this is something that Sarah’s Trust is going to campaign for when lockdown finishes,” she said. “[We’ll] start to do a fund to help so that people can write in and we can help them pay for their funerals, or pay for a loving moment [so] that they can say goodbye to their loved ones.”

On Wednesday, Sarah announced that she was launching the new charitable foundation.

“I am incredibly excited to be bringing all of my charitable causes under one roof with Sarah’s Trust,” she wrote in a statement. “It’s something I have wanted to do for a long time. We will focus on a whole range of causes, all across the world, but at this terrible time, it’s right that our first projects should be to help to contend with the impact of coronavirus both at home and abroad.”

She continued: “It has been humbling to be able to see just a little bit of the incredible work being done by our NHS and other health workers and I’m proud that, working with my daughters and new colleagues at Sarah’s Trust, we’ve been able to make life a little easier for some of them.”
