Most families sit down for Christmas lunch together and the British royals are no different as Her Majesty the Queen hosts an annual luncheon for her extended family every December.

While the most senior royals spend the festive period at Sandringham Estate in Norfolk, the Queen hosts  pre-Christmas sit-down meal for the entire family at Buckingham Palace in mid-December.

This year, the royals arrived at the palace on December 18 to celebrate the holidays with Queen Elizabeth II, including the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and all three of their young children, as well as the Queen’s granddaughter Zara Tindall, along with her former rugby star husband Mike Tindall and their two young daughter Mia and Lena.

And now Mike, who married equestrian star Zara in 2011, has treated royal fans to a brief glimpse behind palace curtains as the 41-year-old revealed some details about what goes on at the luncheon.

Speaking on JOE UK’s ‘House of Rugby’ podcast, Mike was quizzed about the annual event by fellow hosts James Haskell and Alex Payne.

While the adults, including all of the Queen’s children and grandchildren, sit down to dine together, Mike revealed that the youngest members of royalty, including Prince George and his siblings Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, are seated in a seperate room.

‘This is the other one, the family lunch, there must be about 70 of us there,” he said. “There are seven tables and then the kiddies have their own little one in a different room.”

Mike also revealed that he was seated at Prince Charles’ table on this occasion, describing the event as “lovely, really good”.

Royal fans were delighted this year as photographs emerged of the royals arriving for the annual bash, as one-year-old Prince Louis made his first appearance in months, showing just how much he has grown.

The young prince was seated behind his mother and looked remarkably like his older brother Prince George, dressed in a sweet shirt and jumper combo. Fans commented on the images, delighted at seeing the whole Cambridge clan together, with one person writing: “Prince Louis looks like his big bro!!”

Another said: “Look how big Prince Louis is?!?! Even the difference between the 2019 Cambridge Christmas card, that was probably taken in the Fall, floating around and now is staggering.” While a third commented: “Look at those big eyes and chubby cheeks! Gorgeous little boy!”

Catherine arrived at the palace with her two youngest children, while the couple’s eldest child Prince George arrived with his father Prince William. And the Cambridge’s appeared to have gotten into the festive spirit as the duchess donned a vibrant tartan frock for the occasion, which featured a smart white collar, while four-year-old Charlotte wore a navy blue dress with a velvet burgundy collar.
