The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have kept a relatively low profile in recent months since announcing their split from the British royal family and subsequently establishing a new life for themselves and son Archie in Los Angeles.

But this week, Meghan, 39, sat down to talk politics with renowned American feminist Gloria Steinem, 86, ahead of the upcoming US election.

A short teaser clip of their conversation, branded a “history backyard chat” by women’s group Makers, was posted on social media on Tuesday evening. In the clip, a relaxed Meghan dressed in all-white can be seen chatting to the former journalist while sitting on a wooden chair outside. Meghan’s pups even make an appearance!

“Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex and @GloriaSteinem discuss representation, why each vote matters and how all women ‘are linked, not ranked’,” the women’s group captioned the post on Instagram. “MAKERS has an exclusive look at that historic backyard chat! Raising hands Q&A to come tomorrow!”

In the clip, Steinem can be heard saying to the former actress in the teaser clip: “Meg, welcome home. I’m so glad that you’re home.”

“Thank you,” Meghan said. “Me too, for so many reasons.”

The duchess then got stuck into politics, saying: “People forget how hard women like you and so many others before you fought for us to just be where we are right now.”

“If you don’t vote, you don’t exist,” Steinem said. “It is the only place we’re all equal, the voting booth. What worries me the most are young people, who I understand are the least likely to vote and I can understand the feeling that they don’t think they have an impact.”

Many fans shared their excitement over the pairing, with one writing: “Love these two.” Another added: “Yes!! Meghan and Gloria! Love them.” While a third wrote: “Heroes in one shot. Thank you so much for this moment.”

Meanwhile, others commented on how relaxed and at ease Meghan looked in the chat, with one writing: “So nice to see Meghan relaxed.”

The teaser video comes a few days after Prince Harry and Meghan made a rare public appearance as they volunteered at a charity drive-through event last Friday, passing out essential school supplies to families in need ahead of the new school year.

The duke and duchess looked delighted to be working with local LA charity Baby2Baby and could be seen smiling and chatting with locals as they collected their essentials. And both Harry and Meghan were dressed casually for the occasion, with Meghan donning a white linen shirt and khaki shorts, while the prince sported a white polo shirt with grey shorts and a matching cap.
