The first trailer for Prince Harry and Oprah Winfrey’s new mental health special The Me You Can’t See has landed, with the five-episode television mini-series itself set to air on Friday on Apple TV+.

The two-minute trailer is jam-packed with heart-wrenching content, including footage of a then-12-year-old Prince Harry with his father Prince Charles at Princess Diana’s funeral in 1997, a sight that broke hearts all over the world at the time. Harry has previously said walking behind his mother’s coffin in front of thousands had left him traumatised. The footage suggests that Harry will revisit the anguish of that day in the new TV mini-series.

A brief snippet of Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, leaning over her husband while wearing a T-shirt featuring the words “Raising the Future” in capitals is also featured in the trailer. The duchess is later seen reading a book to their two-year-old son Archie, in a clip from the toddler’s first birthday a year ago.

Harry is heard using the word “crazy” to describe the stigma attached to depression. “To make that decision to receive help is not a sign of weakness,” he adds. “In today’s world, more than ever, it is a sign of strength.”

The trailer also shows clips of interviews with celebrities such as singer Lady Gaga, actress Glenn Close and the talk-show queen herself, Oprah Winfrey, who opens up about her own mental health issues in the trailer, saying, “It’s just something I accepted.”

The trailer comes less than a week after Harry sat down for a candid chat with American actor Dax Shepard on his popular podcast Armchair Expert, where the prince accused his father of inflicting “genetic pain” on him, and blamed the Queen and Prince Philip for enforcing a cycle of poor parenting within the royal family.

During the 90-minute interview, Harry claimed Prince Charles’ parenting style was a result of the pain he experienced in his own childhood. “I don’t think we should be pointing the finger or blaming anybody, but certainly when it comes to parenting, if I’ve experienced some form of pain or suffering because of the pain or suffering that perhaps my father or my parents had suffered, I’m going to make sure I break that cycle so that I don’t pass it on,” he said, adding that this is why he made the decision to move to the US.
