Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has announced that, from 1am on November 1, the borders will officially reopen to New South Wales. The premier said if you’re from NSW you can enter Queensland without quarantining.

“We are looking very closely at New South Wales and if they do not have any community transmission for 28 days, we said very clearly that at the end of the month, we review the plans and that would mean there may be a possibility of opening up to New South Wales if there is no community transmission,” Palaszczuk said in a press conference Friday morning. “But, of course, their health experts are also concerned about some undetected community transmission at the moment.”

The premier also announced that from 4pm today you can grab a drink at your favourite venue without being seated. Outdoor events with a Covid Safe Plan in place from today can also host 1,000 people, while open-air stadiums can increase the seated capacity to 75 per cent.

From November 1st gatherings in homes and public spaces will be increased to 40 people, and up to 40 people can dance at a wedding with a Covid Safe Plan. And from December 1st, gatherings in homes and public spaces will be increased to 50 people, the number of attendees at an outdoor event will increase to 1,500 and and unlimited dancing at weddings with a Covid Safe Plan.

“We’ve now put together a road map which takes us to the end of the year, and we’re going to talk about easing some more restrictions,” Palaszczuk said.

“Now, the reason we can ease the restrictions is that Queenslanders have done a brilliant job. I want to thank all of the families out there, all of Queenslanders, for doing the right thing. Keep up the great work!

“But just remember, too, if you’re sick – stay at home and get tested. So, what does that mean? So from 4:00 this afternoon, in some great news and in breaking news, you will be able to stand up inside and outside, whether it’s at a cafe, restaurant or a bar, and have a drink.”
