Customers who bank with NAB were left unable to access vital services on Monday morning, as the big four financial institution suffered technical issues.

NAB confirmed it was suffering from widespread outages this morning and apologised to customers for the “inconvenience” in a statement shared to social media. The issues affected the mobile banking app, desktop internet banking, NAB merchant EFTPOS terminals and NAB Trade.

“We’re currently experiencing login errors with the NAB Mobile Banking app and Desktop Internet Banking. We’re working to fix this as soon as possible. We’re sorry for the inconvenience,” the post read.

NAB then added: “UPDATE: NAB merchant terminals and NAB Trade are also unavailable but ATMs, NAB cards and Apple Pay are still available. We’re really sorry for the impact this is having. We know this is not how anyone wants to start their Monday and we’re working to fix it as soon as possible.”

Many customers were furious about the outage as they were left unable to transfer funds or make payments. One wrote on Twitter: “I’ve been at Bunnings warehouse trying to pay but need to transfer money, the app and online banking are down and I’ve been waiting on hold for over 50 minutes and still no answer. What a fricken joke! You’ve lost me and my wife as customers that’s for fricken sure!”

Another said: “I need to transfer money from accounts. App says use internet banking then your internet banking is down. Not remotely helpful for anyone who is with NAB.”

While another commented: “Ill be moving my little savings account out of NAB been a customer for 20 yrs and you just had a maintenance night a couple of weeks ago, its not good enough and looks like you are offshore. Ridiculous. How can people make a living with unreliable banks and trades![sic]”

And one business owner complained of losing customers. “Your eftpos terminal is down as well. I’m losing customers as they don’t want to use cash as a payment,” they said.

However other users were far more understanding, with one person writing: “No prob, its the first outage I can remember in perhaps 20y with NAB internet banking so say thanks to the team. [sic]”
