Man, 77, rushed to hospital after possible hit-and-run

A 77-year-old man has been rushed to hospital after being struck by a vehicle on the Gold Coast Highway in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Queensland Police said the older man was found on the side of the road at Miami by a passerby who saw the man lying unconscious in a grassed area. He was transported to the Gold Coast University Hospital with serious injuries.

“Police are investigating a serious traffic incident after a 77-year-old man was located on the side of the road at Miami in the early hours of this morning,” Queensland Police said in a statement on Tuesday morning.

“Around 3.35am a member of the public who was driving along the Gold Coast Highway noticed a man unconscious in a grassed area near the road and called police.

“The man was transported to the Gold Coast University Hospital with serious injuries.

“The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the incident and are appealing for any witnesses or dashcam in the area.”
