A grieving family have seized their opportunity to take aim at the policies implemented amid Victoria’s ongoing lockdown, following the death of a relative. The family of deceased man Peter Mitchell slipped a not so subtle dig at the ongoing situation in Victoria in a death notice published in The Age on Wednesday.
“Husband of Jocelyn, father of Julian, Steve and Cassie, grandfather of Tash, Lawless, Jumbo Jim, Rocky, Jeannie, Lisey and Fredster,” the notice read. ” An exceptional man with an exceptional mind, wit and heart. Died in his sleep at home.”
And while the obituary may have started like any other, paying tribute to the beloved father and grandfather, the family finished up the notice with a dig, presumably aimed at Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews. They said: “Memorial Service to be held when the dictator is overthrown.”
The family aren’t the first to hit out at politicians following the death of a loved one, as last month an American woman blamed her husband’s death from Covid-19 on President Donald Trump, along with “ignorant, self-centred and selfish people” who refuse to wear masks despite the ongoing pandemic.
Stacey Nagy penned an impassioned obituary for her husband David, following his tragic death on July 22. David Nagy passed away at Christus Good Shepherd Hospital in Longview, Texas, at the age of 79 after contracting Covid-19. The scathing obituary, which also placed blame on Texas Governor Greg Abbott, was originally published in the Jefferson Jimplecute newspaper, however Stacey then shared the full text of the obituary on social media.
“David W. Nagy passed away on 07/22/20 in the ICU at Christus Good Shepherd Hospital in Longview,” the obituary read. “He suffered greatly from the ravages of the COVID-19 virus and the separation from his much loved family who were not allowed at his bedside.”
It continued: “David’s death was needless. The blame for his death and the deaths of all the other innocent people, falls on Trump, Abbott and all the other politicians who did not take this pandemic seriously and were more concerned with their popularity and votes than lives.
“Also to blame are the many ignorant, self centered and selfish people who refused to follow the advice of the medical professionals, believing their “right” not to wear a mask was more important than killing innocent people. Dave did everything he was supposed to do, but you did not. Shame on all of you, and may Karma find you all!” [sic]
