Elderly woman, 92, fights off knife-wielding intruder with walking stick

An elderly woman bravely confronted a knife-wielding home intruder, after the 92-year-old discovered the man standing in the hallway of her Dubbo home.

According to New South Wales Police, the unnamed woman was on the front veranda of her home on Crown Street, when she heard a noise coming from inside the house at around 1.15pm on Monday.

The woman went inside to investigate and discovered a man, who is described as being Caucasian in appearance, tall with short black hair, standing in the hallway, before he produced a knife and began demanding that the woman hand over cash. The unidentified male also had his face partially covered with a chequered scarf or tea towel.

“The man produced a knife and approached the woman while demanding cash. He held the knife to her throat as he searched her clothing,” a force spokesperson said in a statement.

Despite being threatened with the knife, the elderly woman hit the man with her walking stick. as he fled the property. He managed to steal amount of loose change and a debit card.

NSW Police added: “Police were called and officers from Orana Mid-Western Police District attended and commenced inquiries.”

An investigation has been launched.
