Elderly Perth couple brutally bashed in home invasion

An elderly Perth couple, both aged 90, were left bloodied and bruised after three males assaulted and robbed them in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Western Australia Police said the pair woke to find three males in hooded jumpers in the front room of their South Lake home about 1.30am on Wednesday.

During the brutal attack, the woman received bruising to her face, foot, arms and hands.

The police said the intruders then threw items from inside the home at the elderly man, one of which struck him on the head and caused a laceration.

“The males fled the house on foot shortly after,” police said in a statement.

The two great-grandparents were taken to Fiona Stanley Hospital, where they are currently undergoing treatment for their injuries.

 

Police said a 16-year-old boy and a 17-year-old boy have each been charged with aggravated home burglary and commit, aggravated armed robbery, unlawful wounding with a circumstance of aggravation and aggravated assault occasioning bodily harm. They will appear in the Perth Children’s Court today.

An 18-year-old man from South Lake was charged with the same offences and will appear at the Fremantle Magistrates Court today.

“Investigators would like to speak to anyone with information regarding this incident, or who might have seen a group of males wearing hooded jumpers in the Bibra Lake/South Lake area,” police said. “Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or make a report online at crimestopperswa.com.au.”

According to a perthnow.com.au report, Detective Constable Ben Delaney said that while the victims were shaken up, both were very tough and “in good spirits at the moment”. “But obviously they’re very shaken by what has happened,” he said.
