Former fugitive Graham Gene Potter will front a Queensland court on Tuesday, February 22 after a 12-year nationwide manhunt ended in his arrest.

Potter, 64, was arrested on Monday, February 21 in Far North Queensland after allegedly failing to appear at Melbourne Magistrates Court in February 2010 on charges of conspiracy to murder and Commonwealth drug charges.

Tableland detectives, uniformed police and the Cairns Dog Squad attended an Ascham Street residence at approximately 8:45am, where Potter was located and taken into custody.

Footage released by Queensland Police showed the incredible moment Australia’s most wanted man was brought into custody after over a decade on the run.

Victorian Detectives are expected to travel to the Far North, to seek Potter’s extradition.

Victorian Acting Assistant Commissioner Mick Frewen told 7 News the arrest “puts to an end a long and protracted hunt for a very high-end fugitive.”

“While the trail had gone cold, the resolve to locate Graham right across Australia has not wavered,” he said.

Queensland Police have previously received information regarding sightings of Potter in the Tablelands area, where it is alleged he evaded police in 2010. Potter was allegedly able to evade arrest for over a decade by altering his appearance and identity through a combination of fat suits and wigs.

A significant number of searches and public appeals have been conducted over the past 12 years in an effort to locate Potter.

Potter has previously served 15 years in jail for the murder of 19-year-old Kim Barry in in 1981.
