Earlier this year, TikTok brought us baked feta pasta and the internet went into meltdown. Now the video-sharing app has delivered again, this time bringing us cheesy, crispy pasta chips.

The recipe was initially posted on TikTok in April by food blogger @bostonfoodgram, but it’s only recently gone viral across the internet. And we can see why! It contains basic ingredients, is very quick and easy to make, and tastes amazing!

All you need is: 2 cups of dry pasta of your choice, 1/2 cup grated Parmesan, 1.5 tablespoon of olive oil, 1 teaspoon of garlic powder and 1 teaspoon of onion powder.

In the viral video, which has amassed nearly two million views, the food blogger starts off by talking through the steps. “Pasta chips are the perfect little snack for after work or for guests,” she begins. “Boil the pasta, add grated parmesan, olive oil, garlic powder, onion powder and combine everything together.

“Pop them in the air fryer for seven minutes flipping them at five minutes. They come out golden brown and crispy. Just listen to this crunch.”

In the video, Boston Foodgram uses butterfly-shaped pasta, but we’ve seen others use penne and orecchiette. And if you don’t own an air fryer, don’t fret. You can easily do it in the oven as well, it’ll just take a little longer. Food blogger Cooking with Ayeh recommends cooking the pasta chips in a preheated oven for 17-20 minutes at 200C.

If you’re thinking you’d love to give pasta chips a go, Boston Foodgram shared her recipe:

  • 2 cups dry farfalle (or penne) pasta
  • 1/2 cup Parmesan, grated
  • 1.5 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder

  1. Cook pasta according to the directions on the box.
  2. Drain and place in a medium-sized mixing bowl.
  3. Mix in Parmesan, olive oil, garlic powder and onion powder with the pasta.
  4. Place one layer of pasta in the air fryer and bake it at 200C. At 5 minutes, flip the pasta over and cook for another 2 minutes (or until golden brown).
  5.  Serve with sauce of your choice and top with extra Parmesan.
