Veteran US broadcaster Larry King is mourning the deaths of two of his children, according to Page Six, after his son Andy and daughter Chaia passed away within weeks of each other.
The 86-year-old is understandably said to be “distraught”, with a source telling the publication: “Larry and his three remaining children are distraught, and Larry’s still recovering from his own health issues from last year.”
His son Andy, whom King adopted in 1962 after marrying his mother Alene Akins, is said to have passed away suddenly a few weeks ago. While King and Akin’s daughter Chaia reportedly lost her battle with a chronic illness and died on Thursday.
King has not yet spoken publicly about the deaths, however he is said to have returned to work in a bid to deal with his grief.
The talk show host has three surviving children, 58-year-old Larry Jr. whom he shares with ex-wife Annette Kaye, and sons Chance and Cannon, aged 21 and 20 respectively. Larry shares his youngest sons with his seventh and current wife Shawn King, whom he married in 1997.
King has suffered ill health himself in recent months as he almost died following a stroke last year. Speaking about the incident in February, he told People magazine: “It’s been a rough year. And I don’t have any idea of what 2020 is going to be like. But I can still work and I can watch my kids grow up. I feel positive — and hopeful.”
