After sharing that she “can’t sleep very well”, the 76-year-old Believe hitmaker took to Twitter on Tuesday, December 13, to reveal the “truth” regarding her 96-year-old mother’s final moments, admitting they were filled with “so much pain”.
Cher revealed that her mother had already been sick prior to her passing and that on the day of her death she “coded on the way to the hospital”.

I completely understand that. I truly think I will never feel the same level of happiness with my mom gone. She was born on Christmas, so it stands out a lot more this time of year. Didn’t know how I would last 6 months, and it’s 3 years now. Still, nothing ever feels the same.

Holt’s devastating death comes three months after the music icon revealed that her mother had been admitted to the hospital with pneumonia.
“Sorry I’ve Been Mia. Mom’s Been Sick Off & On. She Just Got Out Of Hosp. She Had Pneumonia,” the I Got You Babe singer wrote on social media at the time.
“Home is the Best Medicine For Her. She’s Getting Better.”
Cher had previously spoken about her mother’s health to People magazine back in 2020, telling the publication that she would get tested for Covid-19 “all the time” as she tried to be “very careful” with her elderly mother.
Like her daughter, Holt also had a career in the entertainment industry. She had roles in a variety of TV shows and films in the ’50s including I Love Lucy and The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet.
Holt’s singing career was fairly recent, even though she’d recorded an album in 1980 called Honky Tonk Woman, featuring covers and duets with Cher.
Holt is survived by daughter Cher, grandsons Chaz Bono and Elijah Blue Allman, and partner Craig Spencer.
