Robert Redford’s filmmaker son James, also known as Jamie, has died at the age of 58 following a liver cancer battle.

James’ wife Kyle confirmed the news on Friday via Twitter writing: “Jamie died today. We’re heartbroken. He lived a beautiful, impactful life & was loved by many.

“As his wife of 32 yrs, I’m most grateful for the two spectacular children we raised together. I don’t know what we would’ve done w/o them over the past 2 yrs.”

Kyle confirmed to The Salt Lake Tribune on Monday that James died from bile-duct cancer in his liver. Kyle said her husband’s liver disease had returned two years ago and the cancer was discovered last November while he was awaiting a liver transplant.

Many fans have since taken to social media to share their condolences, with one writing: “Terribly saddened to hear this news Kyle, I’m incredibly sorry for your loss. Sharing in your sorrow and sending heaps and heaps of love to you and your children right now. Jamie leaves behind such a profound and proud legacy.”

Another added: “Oh my god Kyle. I’m so deeply sorry to hear this. I loved Jamie and every minute we worked together and he loved you so much. My heart is broken for you and the family. Sending you all of my love.”

While a third wrote: “I am so sorry to hear that your beloved Jamie has died. Many of us in Scotland will be eternally grateful for Resilience, starting a national conversation looking to break the cycle of adversity. You can be so proud of him. Thinking of you & all the family at this sad time.”
