Outspoken media personality Piers Morgan is making headlines yet again for publicly criticising Meghan Markle, on this occasion blaming Markle for having him fired from Good Morning Britain.

In March 2021, Morgan departed from his hosting role on Good Morning Britain at ITV after delivering a scathing rant aimed at Markle following her interview with Oprah Winfrey where she discussed her mental health struggles.

On air, Morgan declared that he did not believe anything Markle said and even went as far as to say that he would not trust her to read a weather report. Following his comments, Morgan walked off set after being confronted by Alex Beresford, a fellow journalist, who criticised Morgan’s comments as “diabolical”.

During the confrontation, Alex suggested that Morgan’s negative views towards Markle likely stemmed from a possible personal relationship between the two, which ended when she cut him off. Despite Alex’s criticism, Piers initially refused to resign from his position, which he had held for six years. However, in the days following the episode, ITV announced that Morgan had ultimately resigned from the show.

Despite the criticism, Morgan received for his comments the 57-year-old has remained steadfast in his unfavourable opinion of Markle and has now blamed her for his downfall, accusing her of orchestrating a campaign to get him fired from the popular morning show.

Morgan made the comments during a Fox News segment in which he was discussing cancel culture.

“I loved the show, we tripled the ratings in five years. It was on fire, the show,” he began.

“And then the Meghan Markle, Prince Harry, Oprah Winfrey whine-a-thon aired. I said, ‘I thought it was all a lot of nonsense and dangerous, nasty nonsense.’ I said, ‘I wouldn’t believe Meghan Markle if she read me a weather report.’ I stand by that statement. I think it’s aged pretty well.”

He then floated the theory that Markle had contacted ITV bosses to get him fired.

“She says, ‘You’ve got to fire him for not believing me. It’s racist.’ So they basically put me in a position where either I apologise publicly to Meghan Markle for just [not] believing her lies, or I had to leave, so I decided to leave,” he claimed.

Whether Markle had anything to do with Morgan losing his hosting gig or not hasn’t stopped the media personality from taking the former royal to task any chance he gets, even attacking her during the Queen’s funeral.

The tirade in question came during his live commentary of the Queen’s state funeral on Monday, September 19, 2022, with the controversial media personality wasting no time in tearing into Markle and her husband Prince Harry as they arrived for Her Majesty’s funeral.

The fact that Prince Harry was mourning his grandmother, and Markle her grandmother-in-law, did little to soften Morgan’s vitriol as he accused the pair of “attacking the Royal Family and the monarchy”.

“She did [the Oprah interview] right after Prince Philip was taken into hospital, knowing that none of them were able to respond because none of them respond to this kind of thing,” he said.

“The last two years of the Queen’s life were constantly having to deal with these two going public attacking the Royal Family and the monarchy.

“When I see her at all these events this week, I think a lot of British people find it very hard to stomach because they think, well, you made the Queen’s life so difficult the last two years of her life.”
