Hugh Jackman and his wife Deborra-Lee Furness are “desperate” to come home to Australia as tension in the United States continues to rise amid the election vote counting process.
For the past few days, since voting ended in the US, the world has been watching on in anticipation to see who will be president for the next four years – Donald Trump or Joe Biden. And it seems this tension is taking its toll on both Hugh and Deborra-Lee who are eager to return to the country they call home as soon as possible.
Speaking on The Morning Show this week, Deborra-Lee revealed what life in New York City is like amid the presidential election and how a lot of people are feeling quite anxious as they await the final result.
The 64-year-old actress said there’s definitely “tension in the air” and after years of living overseas she and Hugh are more than ready to come back to Australia.
“Last night we were watching the television and there were helicopters overhead and protests and arrests in the West Village, which is where we live,” she explained on The Morning Show. “I notice every morning now when we go to walk the dogs, there is a tension in the air. We are hoping for an answer very soon so people’s anxiety can be relieved.”
Meanwhile, when asked if the couple were considering moving to their home country, Deborra-Lee said they want to as soon as they can.
“I would love to come home – let us in!” she said in reference to the tight border restrictions due to the outbreak of the coronavirus. “We’re desperate to come home, so as soon as we can, we will be there.”
Both Deborra-Lee and Hugh have remained largely out of the spotlight for the past few months with many Covid-19 cases still being detected throughout the America. However, the pandemic hasn’t stopped Hugh from remaining active and keeping in shape, with the actor taking part in a 25 push-ups for a charity challenge earlier this year.

In the footage posted to Instagram, the Aussie actor, 51, could be heard saying “Gotcha4Life, I nominate myself” before dropping to the floor to begin the challenge. And to no surprise, Hugh didn’t even work up a sweat! Hugh’s adorable pup even made the clip.
“I nominate myself!” he captioned the post. “@gotcha4life is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to mental fitness the world over. #25pushupchallenge *cameo by Allegra Jackman.”
Fans were quick to comment on the actor’s efforts, with one writing: “You’re doing so well.” Another added: “Oh, to be so fit!” While a third wrote: “Love this so much.”
