Whether it’s under the washing machine or behind the toilet, every household has those hard-to-reach places that are almost impossible to clean. The good news is one savvy mum has revealed a simple trick to getting to those spots — and all you need is a pack of plastic straws!

Taking to the Facebook group Mums Who Clean, Loretta Dimopoulos wrote: “Had to share this hack! Straws!!! Brilliant to put at the end of a vacuum nozzle. Great for tricky areas. Also great for cars in tight spots and won’t pick up coins etc!”

Sharing a picture of the hack, she showed how she bundled the straws up and used a thick rubber band to tie them together. She then placed the straws into the vacuum hose and voila! Just make you have enough straws to match the size of the vacuum nozzle or it won’t hold.

Many Facebook users praised the mum for her nifty hack, with one writing: “That’s a brilliant idea. Thank you for sharing.” Another added: “Thanks so much. Probably the best thing I have seen on this page!” While a third wrote: “This is a game-changer.”

This isn’t the first time a mum has made headlines for a cleaning hack. Earlier this year, a woman who goes by the name Mama Mila on the new teen app TikTok, which allows users to share videos, revealed a simple trick to getting your kitchen sink sparkling clean. At the time she said all you need is some bicarbonate soda, vinegar, lemon to disinfect the area and baby oil to maintain the shine.

“So easy you can do it while waiting for your dinner to cook,” she wrote. “Deep clean your sink using natural products you already have.”

To get started, the mum sprinkled some bicarbonate soda in and around the kitchen sink before lightly scrubbing the area with a sponge. She then poured white vinegar on top to disinfect. She then quickly rinsed the sink with water, before rubbing the area with half a lemon to deodorise the surface. And, to get the sink looking super sparkly, she buffed the sink with baby oil.
