When it comes to style, few people do it better than members of royalty and Europe is home to some of the most stylish princesses, duchesses and countesses that the world has to offer.

From glittering ball gowns, military regalia and diamonds galore to off-duty chic and more casual attire, they rarely put a foot wrong when it comes to absolutely nailing the most appropriate look for a range of occasions – of course, we’re aware they do have some help.

So, as 2019 draws to a close we have taken a look back through our archives and pulled together some of the best royal looks of the past 12 months. Which one gets your vote?

Duchess of Cambridge

It’s been almost 10 years since the British royal family announced the engagement of Catherine and Prince William, and in the years since the Duchess of Cambridge has really come into her own in the style stakes.

From incredible ball gowns to active wear, there really is no look that Catherine cannot successfully pull off – but, if you ask us, we think she really shines when she slips into a stunning floor-length gown. It was hard to pick a winner as Catherine has donned some dazzlers this past year, but we think this emerald green number from the Cambridge’s royal visit to Pakistan in October is one of her best looks ever.

Crown Princess Mary of Denmark

While the British royals are renowned for their poise and style, they have some stiff competition from Australian-born Crown Princess Mary on Denmark. The Hobart native never gets it wrong when it comes to fashion and she has proven time and time again that she is all elegance and class, having stepped out in some incredible outfits over the course of the year.

It was this 1960s-inspired outfit that captured our attention though as the mother-of-four, who will become Queen of Denmark one day, appeared to channel former First Lady Jackie Kennedy in the blush pink pillbox hat and coat.

Duchess of Sussex

When it comes to style, Meghan has really stuck to her guns since officially joining the royal family in May 2018 and has regularly stretched the boundaries when it comes to rules and tradition. For example, she has regularly opted to go without nude stockings, which the Queen is said to favour for senior royal women.

During her first full year as a member of royalty, the Duchess of Sussex has treated us to some show-stopping maternity looks, as well as some more laid back outfits during tours and low-key outings. For us though, there’s one clear winner and it’s the stunning white Dior dress and matching fascinator that she wore to her son Archie’s private christening back in July.

Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall

Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall ditched her usual pastels back in April when she stepped out in a show-stopping navy ball gown at the annual Olivier Awards in London.

The 72-year-old led the star-studded arrivals, including Vanessa Redgrave and actress Sally Field, stealing the show in the elegant dress which featured stunning silver detailing.

Lady Gabriella Windsor

Everyone loves a royal wedding and, while we were treated to two in 2018, there has only been one such occasion this past year as Lady Gabriella Windsor, daughter of the Queen’s cousin Prince Michael of Kent, tied the knot at St George’s Chapel in the grounds of Windsor Castle.

The bride looked sensational in a white long-sleeved gown which featured intricate floral lace and was custom made for the blonde beauty, as she vowed to spend the rest of her life with her financier husband Thomas Kingston on May 18.

Queen Letizia of Spain

Another of Europe’s most stylish female royals is Queen Letizia of Spain and the 47-year-old former journalist regularly gives the likes of Catherine and Meghan a fun for their money in equally fabulous ensembles.

One of her best looks from the past year is this fringed number she wore for the 98th annual ABC International Journalism Awards at Casa de ABC on December 3 in the Spanish capital of Madrid.
