Awards season officially kicked off on Sunday, as the 78th Golden Globe Awards was held virtually due to the pandemic. We covered some of our favourite presenters and their fashion choices – along with some of the major award winners – on Monday, and now that the dust has settled we have rounded up the best and worst dressed stars from the evening, for your viewing pleasure. Enjoy!

Best Dressed

Nicole Kidman, who was nominated for Best Actress in a Miniseries or Motion Picture for her role as Grace Fraser in HBO’s hit miniseries The Undoing, didn’t let the fact she was home in Sydney keep her from dressing up for the awards ceremony. Kidman uploaded a snap of herself to social media during the event, which showcased her stunning black Louis Vuitton halter-neck dress. The gown’s metallic braid embellishment reportedly took the atelier’s craftspeople more than 425 hours to embroider, following the initial 15 hours of sketching time it took to perfect the placement of the chainlink detailing.

Nicole accessorised the look with a pair of recycled gold sword drop earrings by Cathy Waterman, and topped off her wavy up-do with a black ribbon.

Kaley Cuoco was nominated for her very first Golden Globe award this year for Best Actress in the TV series The Flight Attendant. And while she may have lost out to Schitt’s Creek star Catherine O’Hara, Kaley was certainly a winner in the style stakes. The actress’ strapless dove-grey Oscar de la Renta ballgown left fans spellbound. The stunning Cinderella-style dress was embroidered with delicate silver starbursts, and Kaley accessorised with every girl’s best friend: sparkling Harry Winston diamonds.

Worst Dressed

Awards co-host Tina Fey had a number of unpopular costume changes on the night, but one in particular, by designer Ulyana Sergeenko, deeply unimpressed viewers. The comedian’s effervescent personality seemed to be weighed down by the rather dowdy dress, which many felt made her look a bit like a Russian school teacher.

Meanwhile, viewers at home were also less than impressed with Maya Rudolph’s choice of outfit. The American actress opted for a floaty floral kaftan for the event. News.com.au described her ensemble as “probably more barbecue than black tie” and we’d have to agree.
