Anyone who has hardwood floors or wooden furniture knows of the pain that comes with discovering new scratches that have suddenly appeared on much-loved surfaces and the ordeal involved in trying to remedy them.

Fortunately, there’s an easy way to fix those pesky scratches and it’s as simple as a trip to the kitchen.

TikTok user endpin123 has posted her unique method for eliminating scratches on her wooden floor using nothing but a walnut, which has gone viral with many simultaneously baffled and amazed by the simple hack.

“I just put a scratch in my hardwood floor, by accident, and I heard if you rub nuts on them, they disappear,” she explained in the video.

In the video, @endpin123 tries several varieties of nuts on the scratch, including pecans, pistachios, and walnuts. After rubbing using the walnut, the scratch miraculously disappeared, with similar results from the pecan. When she used the pistachio nothing happened and the scratch remained.

Many commentators were amazed by the little-known hack.

“Why did that work?” one asked.

“Just fixed my floor!”

“Who on earth figured that out?”

The reason why this method seems to work has to do with the natural oil within the nuts that seep into the scratch, covering it up perfectly.

Content Specialist Craig Brown from HIREtrades, an online platform connecting tradies and customers, confirmed the method saying, “walnuts contain natural oils and brown pigments that aid in the healing and improvement of old, wood floors.”

“To use this, warm the oil in the nut with your fingertips, then use small circular strokes to massage it into the worn portions of the floor. Allow a few minutes to absorb before polishing with a soft cloth,” he said.

He also suggested an alternative method for removing pesky scratches.

“On untreated or newly sanded flooring, coconut oil can also help to remove scratch marks,” he said.
